Mikel Arteta, the manager of Arsenal, has given an update regarding Thomas Partey’s future.
Partey, one of Arsenal’s most seasoned players, has put up some incredibly strong displays thus far this season.
However, as Partey’s present contract ends at the end of June next year, it is unclear where he will play next season.
During his pregame press conference prior to Saturday’s away game against West Ham, Arteta was questioned regarding Partey’s condition.
When Arteta joined Arsenal from Atletico Madrid in October 2020, Partey was one of the team’s first big acquisitions.
Although injuries have plagued his time at Arsenal, the Ghanaian international has made 133 appearances thus far.
Arteta expressed his satisfaction with Partey’s contribution this season and said that talks regarding his future will take place when the time is right.
If Partey hasn’t signed a new contract with Arsenal, he will be eligible to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign team starting in January.
Arteta stated: “We will have the right time to discuss about the situation,” according to Football.London.
“I am really happy with the fact that he is demonstrating consistency at the highest level, which is again made possible by his availability and physical state.“
It will be interesting to observe if Partey can hold onto his starting position for the rest of the season, as Arteta
having different midfield choices to select from.
Partey, Declan Rice, and Martin Odegaard currently seem to be Arteta’s first-choice midfield trio.
Jorginho is an other option in Partey’s place at the base of the midfield, but Arteta can also use Mikel Merino and the incredibly gifted young player Ethan Nwaneri.
Partey has produced two goals for Arsenal in the Premier League so far this season, the most recent of which was an incredible goal in the team’s triumph over Nottingham Forest last weekend, in addition to his tough-tackling performances.
Arsenal will play their next game on Saturday at West Ham, followed on Wednesday by an exciting home match against Manchester United.
Partey, who is 31 years old, might not be a long-term option for Arsenal, but the team will be keen to retain him given his outstanding performance.
Since the Community Shield at the beginning of last season is the only trophy he has won with Arsenal, Partey will be motivated to help the team win this season.
In addition to being seventh in the Champions League league phase table and fourth in the Premier League, Arsenal has advanced to the Carabao Cup quarterfinals, where they will play Crystal Palace.
