At the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on Friday night,
Mike Tyson defeated Jake Paul by unanimous decision, ending his first ring appearance since 2005. As the fight went on, the 27-year-old Paul was able to wear down the former undisputed heavyweight champion with more forceful blows, although the seasoned 58-year-oldc endured all eight rounds, each lasting two minutes. According to the judge’s cards, Paul had an 80-72 advantage, while the other two called it 79-73.
Before the final bell sounded at the home of the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys, Paul even paid tribute to Tyson by bowing, removing all of the venom from the pre-fight hype. At the conclusion of the bout, the two warriors embraced amicably, with Paul praising his esteemed opponent as the “best ever to do it.”
Following the opening bell, Tyson promptly pursued Paul and delivered a few brief blows, but he made few more attempts. Even shorter and fewer rounds weren’t enough to get a 58-year-old battling a boxing novice who aspires to compete for titles in the future in his first official professional bout in over two decades.
After the fight, Tyson evaluated Paul’s abilities and said, “He is a very talented fighter.” He is deserving of the respect.
Even though he was competing in his first official fight since 2005, Tyson made no commitments about wearing the gloves again.
Tyson and his most recent opponent, Paul, were 31 years apart in age, which was more than the 24-year difference between Archie Moore (49), and Mike DiBiase (25), who faced Tyson in a 1963 fight.
