The manager of the struggling champions acknowledges that the team is “fragile” after being thrashed 4-0 by Tottenham and says the trip to Anfield is essential.
After his “fragile” team suffered their fifth straight loss, Pep Guardiola declared that if Manchester City loses at Liverpool next week, their hopes of winning the Premier League for the fifth time in a row will be dashed.
James Maddison scored twice before Pedro Porro and Brennan Johnson added more goals as Tottenham Hotspur crushed City at the Etihad Stadium.
Guardiola’s team could drop 11 points behind Liverpool if they lose at Anfield next Sunday, making City the first defending champions to lose five straight since Chelsea in 1956.
Guardiola maintained that securing a Champions League spot, not the championship, would be the season’s primary goal in the event of a loss.
“You can only congratulate Tottenham when you lose 4-0. We are a little weak at the moment; we had trouble scoring goals in this match and are thinking negatively. The City manager stated, “We have to improve on these results even though we have lost three straight Premier League games.”
“Life is like this, even though we are not used to doing this. We must accept that it happens occasionally. We will get up and take action because that is the current situation.

“We must focus on the upcoming game instead of the season’s conclusion. We deserved to win it in the past, so now we must gradually improve and, most importantly, qualify for the Champions League.
John Stones, who had rejoined City after missing international duty, was taken off the field in discomfort at halftime. The team’s captain, Kyle Walker, stated that the players are capable of going back to winning ways.
I haven’t fully processed it yet, so it’s difficult for me to stand here and talk about it. I’ll be here for losses as well because I’ve been here when we’ve won titles,” he said.
“I hope that the magic returns and that the City from the previous eight seasons appears. Your abilities don’t just appear. We are aware of our strengths and shortcomings. You win, you regain your self-assurance, and our feelings return to their former state.
“I wouldn’t say that our mutual confidence has diminished. I’ve been with this group for eight years. As a team, you lose confidence, but we must keep in mind our collective accomplishments. Our past accomplishments are history and have no bearing on the present. Above us, one team is performing exceptionally well. We’ll
